Our History

International Volunteers Network was started by husband and wife team - James and Sarah Nadiope and their elder son Timothy Nadiope, based in the heart of the capital city of Kampala, Uganda, with a desire to open up new opportunities for responsible volunteering, adventure and sustainable community development.

In 1986, James had experienced firsthand the benefits of volunteering while on a long term volunteering mission in Mombasa, Kenya with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) a Christian international organization based in USA with outreach bases all over the world. These experiences created within him a passion for enabling people from all walks of life, to take up the challenge and give time to others in need, travel the world, and explore new cultures.

On July 4th 2005, International Volunteer Network was launched online from the Nadiope family home in the capital city of Kampala, Uganda. Based on the concept that volunteer travel should be responsible, high quality and affordable, IVN quickly became the provider of choice for thousands of people looking to travel and volunteer abroad.

Since launching in 2005, IVN has grown over the years and now we are a dedicated team of people including ex international volunteers who have many years’ experience of the volunteer, charity and expedition sectors and a passion to see both individuals and communities changing, growing and caring for each other as we work together. We are no longer based in the Nadiope’s family home but have a fully flagged offices in the heart of the Kampala city of Kampala and we still strive to provide trips that are responsible, high quality and affordable. We believe that each person has unique talents, gifts and insights which can be used in amazing ways to support and inspire communities around the world and we love to see change in action.
