Volunteer Abroad Resources

You will need a valid visa to be able to stay in Uganda. Visas are currently issued online. All you need to do is to log on Uganda visa application link https://visas.immigration.go.ug  and fill out the online application form. A Ugandan visa is valid for three months initially. For those who intend to stay for a period longer than three months, after your visa expires the program staff in Kampala will help you to renew your visa at the Ugandan immigration authority in Kampala.

We recommend simply writing down on your immigration visa form that your purpose for travel is tourism or vacation (IVN trips fall under the category of volunteer tourism). All IVN volunteers travel to our programs on tourist visas/stamps. If you write down work or volunteer work as your purpose, immigration often demand you pay extra and acquire a work (employment) visa which is not necessary for the volunteer work you will be doing (these visas are provided for long term (in excess of 6 months) volunteers).

Looking to volunteer abroad but don't have the savings to support your trip? You've come to the right place - the following volunteer fundraising ideas have been shared by previous IVN  volunteers, who have found this method invaluable when raising funds for their volunteer overseas trips.

At International Volunteers Network (IVN), we do our utmost to ensure our volunteer programs are affordable; however we realize that the total cost to volunteer vacation abroad can still be expensive by the time that flights, insurance, and all fees are paid. Every volunteer traveler is different and while some volunteers have access to funds for their volunteer trips, there are many volunteers that need to fundraise to obtain sufficient funds to finance their trips.

To help offset this and assist volunteers with their fundraising efforts to volunteer abroad, IVN recommends that volunteers use the crowd funding where they can sign up a fund raiser campaign with GoFund Me. Use social media platforms to notify your friends and family of your fundraising efforts, and provides financial tools for you to receive payments and tracks your progress. The system is incredibly effective and over the past years IVN volunteers have raised more than enough cash for their volunteer abroad trips through crowd funding.
